After over thirty years, the Cosmopolitan remains one of the biggest selling and most recognisable mixed drinks in the world. Some snobs may wince at the somewhat retro-tastic and populist nature of the drink, but suffice to say this legendary tipple is, if made well and with respect, one of - if not THE - greatest contemporary classics to grace a cocktail shaker. Most will know this icon as the drink that Carrie & Co. replaced those awful Apple Martinis with, but despite its seemingly superficial demeanour this drink has a rich history beyond Madonna or Sex In The City that is rarely told, and that coincides with empowerment and liberation during the '80s and beyond. Your typical twirly moustachioed 'vintage' bartender might look down on this drink, but I am passionate about its place in cocktail history and confident I can even convert the most discerning of skeptics.During this ninety minute 'journey' I will - based on in depth research into the subject and personally knowing some of the characters behind the drink - regale the twisted history of the Cosmopolitan, presenting four delicious and unique versions of the drink as it evolves through the decades. Requisite banter and a suitably tailored soundtrack will naturally also be provided alongside the refreshments. At the end of the session you will also have the opportunity to shake your favourite version for yourself and your guests, and I shall leave you with recipes and instruction to ensure that you shall be proficient in recreating this notable cocktail for years to come. This masterclass is designed for 2 people but can easily accommodate up to 6 with a minor surcharge for the additional drinks. All ingredients, ice, glassware and equipment will be provided, and any ice or juices left over will be gifted for further experimentation. I will only need ready access to running water, disposal and a plug socket. For larger groups we would need to reuse glasses for each drink, so as a landlady used to say to me: "Drink it or loose it!"
I have worked for over two decades in the drinks industry, won multiple awards and represented the U.K. several times in cocktail competitions. For half of my career I worked in some of the most respected bars in the world, whilst the other half has been spent working full time as an international drinks consultant, which has lead me to create hundreds of original cocktails, bar programmes and concepts all over the globe, and train countless bartenders. I also host and hold seminars, judge competitions and work as a drinks writer, which in a nutshell makes me something of an authority on the world of drinks and a specialist particularly on cocktails. I will bring this experience into your home, creating cocktail-led events which are as fun as they are informative, whether they are focussed on your favourite tipple or teach you how to mix like the best.
